It's not clear from your post what you mean by "recognizing SQL
Server". Do you mean that you can connect but your applications can't?
Do you get a specific error message at any point? Do you have MSDE or
Developer Edition? Here are some links that might be useful - if they
don't help, then I auggest you post some more precise details of what
