You might also try setting ServerAliveInterval.

I usually put something like the following in my ~/.ssh/config

------------8<---------------------

host somehost
user mrgoblin
ServerAliveInterval 45
hostname somehost.somewhere.com
ForwardX11 no

------------->8---------------------
