Default Informix 7.23 on SCO OS 5.0.7

Hi,
as the subject states I'm trying to upgrade a local server with a
free developer's copy of SCO 5.0.7 we picked up god knows how many
months ago. We have a client out there running 5.0.7 with no problems -
system was installed 6 months or more ago and no problems. Our's just
doesn't seem to like Informix.

The two main symptoms I'm seeing is that dbaccess crashes when I
select "Query Language", gdb backtrase was:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x809b8da in stcopy ()
(gdb) bt
#0 0x809b8da in stcopy ()
#1 0x80d583c in isrmnttype ()
#2 0x8040804 in ?? ()
#3 0x8040888 in ?? ()
Cannot access memory at address 0x53465448

Programs compiled both before and after the upgrade using esql are
similar:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x800eb79b in stcopy () from /opt/informix507/lib/esql/libixos.so
(gdb) bt
#0 0x800eb79b in stcopy () from /opt/informix507/lib/esql/libixos.so
#1 0x800e3b69 in isrmnttype () from /opt/informix507/lib/esql/libixos.so
#2 0x800eee98 in wkent () from /opt/informix507/lib/esql/libixos.so
#3 0x8008c58c in ?? ()
Cannot access memory at address 0x110e8

Informix tech support recommended checking environment ( no problem
I can see ) and reinstalling Informix (done, no change).

We ordered updated software (SE7.25 IIRC) a few weeks ago but are
now unable to contact the salesperson.

Informix works fine on the client's site, which was also upgraded
from 5.0.5 to 5.0.7.

Anyone got any suggestions apart from taking a fire axe to the server?
