In response to my statement here that if IBM wanted to keep Informix
from becoming another Pick it would need to make a firm committment I
received an email from the product manager for Informix at IBM.
It is precisely brochures such as the one you have discovered that are
what will kill Informix. Not the product's quality or technology. But
an inability on the part of IBM to make a clear non-ambiguous statement
of fact.
The product manager says one thing ... the brochure clearly doesn't
support the smiling marketer's statement. The customer ... when faced
with a choice ... is going to be responsible and take the safest route
to protecting both their employer and their family's income. It is sad.
