One piece of advice.
Before even attempting to install, boot a live CD, play about with it, start
to get to know your way around. Probably the best bet for this is Ubuntu.
The distribution itself is CD bootable as a live CD and has an install
application on the desktop ready for you, when you've finished testing it.

Indeed. I'm currently on Gutsy myself having spent nearly 10 years with
SuSE. Of course, when Hardy comes out, I'll be apt-get dist-upgrading.
