I have several Linux/Windows computers powered through SmartUPSes,
and on all the computers I'm using Apcupsd. In that case one can
use web interface to get info about any UPS, and it is not necessary
to install/use X Window (did not try latest versions of PowerChute
though, so maybe now X is not required).
