An uncommon machine indeed. Don't see many around at all.

No, Solaris 10 requires UltraSPARC II CPUs, which Sun handles by stating
CPUs faster than 200Mhz.

Not on SPARC hardware. If you want an open-source platform for that
machine, try OpenBSD - works quite nicely.

The SPARC will kick the legs off the 486 in real terms for that job.

UltraSPARC based machine - they really get work done.
