Default Solaris 10 printing problem

I installed (full install) Solaris 10 1/06 on an Ultra 10. I used the
print manager to set up a printer; an HP Laser Jet 4000 with a JetDirect
card. I made it the default printer.

I said "lp /etc/hosts" to print a "test page".

Nothing happened. No error message and nothing came out of the printer.

The printer is "ready and printing", so what's the problem.

It's great that you can pick your printer by manufacturer and model from
a list and set it up with a few mouse clicks but it's worth nothing if
the printer won't print.

The printer works fine; I print to it from my Solaris 8 and 9 systems
and my Windoze system. S8 and S9 systems use the HP JetDirect support
from the JetDirect CD. The problem is somewhere in Solaris 10.
