Remove the keyboard and mouse; if a keyboard is attached, there will
be no output to the terminal.
For good measure, you can try (with keyboard) to hold down the
L1 (or stop) key together with the N key during power-on; this will
reset the EEPROM.

That is somewhat strange; typically it would attempt to boot from
the CD and then stop.
Disconnect the keyboard then retry.
