In which sense do you mean "it never came up"? do you have any of these:

BIOS/POST screen?
Boot manager screen[1]?
Standard "unix is booting" messages?
Error messages?

Or does it just sit there and do nothing? (in which case, is it
plugged in and powered on? ;-)

It could be that the X server is incorrectly set, and that the display
is blanked to keep it from damage.

[1] I've not installed x86 Solaris, so I have no idea if the boot
process is kicked off like GRUB, LILO or even SPARC Solaris
