W2100z: dumb SCSI questions I got my hands on a W2100z recently. This is my first workstation and the
first time I've ever used SCSI. It got a U320 Adaptec AIC-7902 controller.
The one SCSI drive in the system is a 73 GB Seagate ST373307LW. It's on
channel B as device ID 0. The cable that's on is the only SCSI cable I have
currently. It has another connector available and I guess what is called a
terminator at the end.
Okay, I can get my hands on an identical SCSI drive--exact same drive. So
I have 2 questions:
1) If I put this in there I should just set it up like the other one,
except jumper it to a device ID other than 0? Also, I read something about
powering the terminator or something, which I assume the other drive is
already doing, so I should set this one to not do this? Does it matter
which one is closest to the terminator? If you have anything to add, please
do--I'm obviously totally lost.
2) In the SCSI setup utility it has a choice that says Host RAID
Enabled/Disabled. It's currently disabled, of course. I don't see anything
that says anything like RAID 0,1,etc., so I wonder what this means. If I
enable that then can I have hardware RAID 0? If so, would it be even better
to get another cable and put the second drive on the A channel?
I'd RTFM, but I can find any docs on this thing on either adaptec's or sun's
site. |
