did you ever go to cygwin.com? a quick check of:

http://cygwin.com/packages/

shows precompiled packages for pine & mutt. also this:

nano: A pico clone text editor with extensions

i have used pine, a brain dead elm w/IMAP, and other serious
elm users transitioned to mutt and liked it just fine. die-hards,
like me, managed to find an unsupported elm w/IMAP and used that
w/fetchmail. this was in the Unix world, not linux. --Loren
