Default video4linux and ATI

Hello !

I have some problems with video4linux on my Debian Woody.
I have tried for a long time to find the answer on the newsgroups but
haven't succeeded so far.

Everything has begun with this message after launching 'scantv' :
***************************************
v4l2: open /dev/video0: No such device
v4l: open /dev/video0: No such device
no grabber device available
***************************************

Looking more closely, I have found that the problem comes from
'v4l-conf'. When launching it (as simple user or as root) it says :
***************************************
v4l-conf: using X11 display :0
dga: version 2.0
mode: 1024x768, depth=24, bpp=32, bpl=4096, base=0xe0000000
can't open /dev/video0: No such device
***************************************

Now to help you understanding the problem :
- I have an ATI All In Wonder 128 16 Mo video card,
- I have the XFree86 which comes from Debian Woody 3.0r1 (Version
4.1.0.1) with the GATOS driver (the one for the XFree86 4.1.x series),
- I have put a 'Load "v4l"' in my XF86Config-4 and the
/var/log/XFree86.0.log contains :
***************************************
(II) LoadModule: "v4l"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/linux/v4l_drv.o
(II) Module v4l: vendor="The XFree86 Project"
compiled for 4.1.0.1, module version = 0.0.1
ABI class: XFree86 Video Driver, version 0.4
***************************************
- 'xawtv' works perfectly from the very beginning (!),
- the folder /dev has :
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 jun 8 21:40 video -> video0
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 0 jun 8 21:40 video0

I am a newby on Linux and am stuck on this problem for a month.
Reading newsgroup, I have found many post about 'videodev' and 'bttv'
but I'm not sure that it's relevant here (because 'xawtv' is already
working). This problem prevents me from using 'scantv' and especially
'xawdecode' (same errors messages) which I find really annoying.

It would be very kind if someone could help me or give me some advice. I
really have tried everything before asking for help...

Thank you in advance.
