Did you load the modules needed?

??? I installed more than one SuSE 9.0 on a SCSI system. GRUB boots
just fine.

Your problem is not the boot loader. Tell Yast to load scsi modules
during installation. Then it will generate a proper initrd, that will
load the needed drivers on boot, may it be lilo or grub.
