Basic audio setup?
This is probably a very primitive question, but at the moment I haven't
a clue what's wrong.
I have an (inherited -- no docs) Intel CA810 Celeron box with an integrated
sound card.
I find that I can play sound through it -- as long as I'm root! If I try
as a user, (using say mpg123) I get "audio: Permission Denied".
(I'm not even *trying* to look at esound or other GUI based apps yet.)
I found that all the /dev/audio* and /dev/mixer* entries were not
generally readable and writable, so I changed them to be world-r/w,
but it had no effect.
The sound card (es1371) seems to have been detected properly as it
is in /etc/sysconfig/hwconf (and it works from root), but something must
be missing.
Can someone suggest where I might set things up (should there be an
'audio' script in init.d for instance?)
