I see the same problem here with alsa. I have an "ESS ES1869 Plug and
Play AudioDrive" ISA sound card (yeah, yeah, it works) detected by ISAPnP
that works fine everywhere else but alsa can't seem to find it.
Try a different mixer, e.g. "aumix" to unmute your card. It works for me,
anyway.
