Default I need help: How to connect to Win2000; how to obliterate WinXP partition?

Hi, I have two questions that are perhaps very basic but I really need
help with:

1. How do I obliterate XP from my hardrive and give it all to Linux
(SUSE)?

2. How do I use the Linux (SUSE) machine to hold files for my Windows
2000 laptop? Both have Ethernet and I could connect the two via an
Ethernet cable with XP and 2000.

Also, I would like to use the Win2000 laptop's Internet connection for
both, so my girlfriend can browse the web on the Linux machine without
bugging me while I use the laptop.

I know these may be basic questions, but I would really appreciate any
answers/direction to answers that won't take too much learning, as I'm
a bit pressed for time on these two.

All the rest of the Linux world I'm willing (and eager) to explore
over time, take the time to study, etc., but these two issues I need
to get working right away (mostly the second).

My situation is that I actually had a legal version of XP Pro that
burned up with a lot of other stuff - so now I can't prove I had it
but I'd just as soon jettison it, anyway.

Someone gave me a copy of XP with the activation feature, and I put it
on my new (replacement) hardrive, and then I just used the desktop to
hold files for the laptop (I work with big sound files) while
finishing a project. Now that's expired and I installed SUSE, but it
left Windows with half my hard drive. I don't want to to have any. As
long as Linux can work to hold my files, I can learn the rest as I go
along.

Thanks.
