That..... depends a lot on your distribution. Which Linux are you using, and
which operating system release?
It's possible with recent RedHat versions, for example, to allow users to
mount hard drives by setting specific settings in /etc/fstab. Auto-mounting
could be more of an adventure, depending on what the drives are and what
configurations you want them to have. And do you mean "mount at boot time",
or "mount and unmount it when I plug it in"?
