Default installing linux on ibm thinkcentre m51

Hi,

I've had some trouble installing linux on an ibm thinkcentre m51.
first, i installed Fedora Core 4, which worked, but X windows wouldn't
start. I got an error that no screens have usable configuration, and
seemed to have a problem w/ the depth. i tried changing the depths
from 16 to 8 or 24, but no luck. Then, x windows didn't work with
debian either. Ubuntu crashed during installation, while trying to set
up the graphics, and SUSE 10 crashed during installation (perhaps this
was due to the presence of the debian installation on the hard
drive??).

anyway, i don't know if anyone has found a distribution which does work
on this system.

Also, the problems seems to be the graphics, and intel has a linux
driver for the relevant chipset (915), but the installation
instructions are geared towards SUSE 9. Does anyone know if this
driver can be used with other distributions, and if so, how?

thanks,
vikaas
