Does the motherboards' hardware list the sata hardware in the boot routine?
Have you downloaded and run the diags from the hardware manufacturer of
the hard drive?

Make sure the kernel you are using supports sata. Should since it sees
the first one.
What were the results of the diag program?
What make and model is the motherboard?
What make and model are the sata hd's?
Try the latest version of Ubuntu 6.06 live to see if it recognizes the
drives.
