I wonder if anyone could help me? I've got a Bull Escala T series box
with Aix 4.3.3 on it, or the Bull varient, but have lost the root
password. Searching google, I've found a solution that involves going
into the maintenance console, and using the maintenance to get at the
disk to edit the password file etc..

Problem is that I do now know the password for the maintenance mode -
so is there a default one or is it set on install and unique per box?
The maintenance mode I'm referring to here is the one you get if you
turn the key to the "spanner" then IPL the box. It comes up with a gui
interface with one of the options being "system maintenance" or
similar. I've pulled out the dasd controller to see if the password
was stored on disk, but it's not - my guess is that it's in eeprom.
