Architecturally speaking, it seems to have hooks for IA-64 as a result of
earlier Project Monterey work. While the shipping versions of AIX 5L
doesn't run on any IA-64 processor, it may be possible that IBM could
release some future version of 5L for IA-64 if they ever decide it's a good
strategic move.

(Just adding; you are, of course, correct that for all practical purposes,
shipping versions of AIX 5L won't currently run on any Intel hardware.)
