After upgrading my H80 to 5.2, the system hung and would not reboot.
I called IBM after about an hour of troubleshooting. We determined
that the SSA adapter fileset did not get upgraded, and as well, the
bos.mp for some reason did not get upgraded. I also discovered that
for some reason, /tmp was missing from /etc/filesystems. The IBM tech
informed me there was a known issue upgrading to AIX 5 on system with
rootvg mirrored. As of November, 2003, there was no fix from IBM. We
determined that was not the case with my system, forced these 2
filesets to be applied, I added a "/tmp" stanza to /etc/filesystems,
then booted. No problems.
If you get the "bug", the system will not boot. fsck will run on all
filesystems and might even fix things, but the filesystems still will
not mount. The only fix as of November, 2003 was a mksysb restore and
try again. The way around the "bug" was to unmirror rootvg first.
