maybe your openbsd root partition is outside the first 8GB of the disk?
be sure to read the following:
http://www.openbsd.org/faq/faq14.html#LargeDrive

if this is the case, one possible solution is to create a partition for
openbsd on your second hard drive and to reuse the space on the first disk
where you previously installed openbsd for storage.
