Default "Prettifying" syslogd output

Is there a mechanism for pre-processing syslogd(8) output sent to a tty
device to change the message's color based on its content? For example, if
you're logging firewall activity to a terminal, you might want to highlight
certain log messages in red to indicate critical status.

Thanks,
Mike
