I think these two HOWTOs will help:

Both of them are slightly out of date, which is probably worth bearing
in mind. I would /guess/ you won't have to recompile the kernel as
mentioned in the HOWTOs as USB is a common feature these days. I would
also /guess/ that setting up this tablet in Slackware 9 would be
easier, due to its hotplugging features.
