Default Re: Promise Ultra100 IDE controller help?

Is that the '265? I had trouble with that chip on a Gigabyte GA-7ZXR ...
It worked ok with Linux as long as I switched it to ATA100 mode (as
opposed to RAID) I used it with Slack8.1 .. I believe the RAID function
is supposed to work now, but it still doesn't see it upon booting to my
knowledge ... You would have to either use a seperate boot drive on
another controller until you re-compile, or just use the ATA100 mode, as
I mentioned earlier. I had the same trouble with a '275 on my friend's
MB .. My ultimate solution was to upgrade to a 3Ware Escalade 7500-4LP
64-bit RAID controller. I also added a couple more drives for a total of
4 WD1200JB I am (needless to say) MUCH happier with the performance

RAID-5 (2 drives interlaced, 1 XOR drive and 1 hot-spare) 240GB array
with plenty of redundancy.
