Why my TNT2 card does not work? Let me tell you my story:
I own an old PII with a Nvidia TNT2 card I used to run Mandrake 9.1 on.
Now I switched to Slackware 9.1 (kernel 2.4.22)
I downloaded the latest Nvidia driver from their site; I installed it; I
changed "vesa" driver with "nvidia" in XF86Config; I rebooted the machine.
With Mandrake, when X was about to start, the NVidia logo appeared on
the screen... but no logo appeared. only some blue flashing, then a blue
screen (whoa! Blue screens! about an year has passed since I dropped
Wi****s 98 and blue screens again!!!) informing me the Nvidia module did
not load and X won't run.
I am pretty sure the horizontal and vertical frequencies of the screen
are ok (btw I switched to TFT - does it matter?), and I even tried to
upgrade the kernel to 2.4.23 (uninstalled and reinstalled NVidia
drivers) but no success.
what went wrong? Please, tell me, I don't want to get back to Mandrake!!! |
