what at least you can do, is, at the boot prompt, enter this parameter
video=vga16

it will disable the framebuffer. Then you will go on your install on a
80×25 console that should avoid the problem
Still, this is not a solution to the problem of the garbled font on
framebuffer, but someone will tell you I guess
Personnally I always prefer to use a framebuffer only when I want it,
and load then the matrox one
