At various other times other messages are given, but the common
complaint is "no server active."

The Samsung helpguy sent the following:
--------------------------
Use the built in ML-1210 or ML-1430 drivers instead of the ML-1740
drivers. The ML-1740 is a host based printer which means the Operating
System processes the print job, not the printer. Go to
www.linuxprinting.org Look for the FAQ's. You should see Samsung at the
bottom of the page. You may find a workaround.
Copy and page this link into your web browser
http://cbbrowne.com/info/printing.html
you may find the answer to your problem at that website. We have tested
the ML-1740 with Red Hat version 9.We installed the driver using lpr. We
were able to print simple text files from the terminal.

"I think my mind is going, Dave." I assume this means to use their
program to add an ML-1710 printer as lp2 and print to that. I'm
reluctant to try to "improve" something that finally started working
when I don't know why it stopped working :-(

Just think, the world is full of immortal Okidata dot matrix printers
that will probably last as long as Schwinn Varsities!
ObMozilla: I can't get either Moz 1.8 or NS 4.79 to print landscape
instead of portrait. 'Print preview' works fine, but the page comes out
portrait. Fortunately there's not much reason to print b+w pix at 600
dpi.
