This is a gotcha for Dropline too, both on install and uninstall.
Dropline's installer figures it knows best what packages you should and
shouldn't have on your system, and it will silently uninstall anything
that it doesn't like, even if the matching Dropline packages aren't
installed. This means if you have a particular X setup, it will turf,
even if you don't install its replacement X system.

I /hate/ installers that try to be too smart. They end up just working
on the middle-of-the-road average Joe User machine and not on anything
else. Which is totally contrary to the spirit of Slack.

It's going to be a huge blow to Slackware if/when Gnome gets dropped
from the official distro.
