A little bit misleading regarding the cause of the date problem,
particulary as a reboot of the linux machine solved all.

I have been looking at the Dell ads. recently and may be buying a new pc.
When I do, I shall be testing the theory that loading the msdos stuff as
modules will solve the problem.
