I personally prefer the signal quality of ATI-based cards to NVidia any
day, but my experiences with Linux drivers for ATI is so so. From what I
understand the general concensus is also that NVidia is way ahead of ATI
when it comes to Linux support. So if this is already your preference I'd
say you should go for it.

Then of course there is always Matrox, unless 3D performance is a big
issue.
