I made the same experience. As long as you handle CD's, vereything is
ok, but when it comes to DVD's it sudenly stucks...

Are you using cdrecord_prodvd? I'm just able to use it with idescsi
(running 2.6 on AMD64), according to the author i've a broken kernel,
which prevents me from using atapi. Not sure what is where broken, but
it works quite well using idesci...
