This is clearly a kernel bug and there is nothing to be done but
to use a kernel without that particular bug.

The latest 2.4.x kernels have been pretty good, though I don't use
Reiser fs. You might try 'emerge vanilla-sources' and see if the
newer kernel has fixed that bug.
