Hi,

The gentoo system in question is
Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16
(from the release info in /etc)
I can't remember if I did this particular install after 1.4 availabilty?
are these the same release numbers?
I noted 'emerge -p gcc' shows 2.95 as the current and available
while portage shows all the way up to 3.0.3 available.
In other words my gcc is stuck at
gcc-2.95.3-r8
Does this make sense or does it sound like I have caused this in the
past by injecting a stub or some such?
