1. I always shut down properly. There is no indication of any error
condition, just the message about login for maintainance or do ctrl-d.
I've not seen similar actions from other distros even on the rare occasion
that shutdown is not clean.

2. If I had known they were trying to follow MS in that regard, I might
never have started this experiment.
