At the moment, I'm logged in FreeBSD, so cannot double check, but that's
one of the first things that I learned when beginimng the Gentoo voyage
that /etc/inittab has nothing to do with the gentoo runlevels+X, unlike
most of the distros.
AFAIK you either add or del xdm from the default runlevel by means of
rc-update, but I may be wrong
