I've never done gentoo on dailup but I did run a linux from scratch box
on a dailup connection for two years it was possible but the initial
setup i.e. downloading of sources will take a *long* time (i.e. leaving
the dailup line on over night for about a week). Once it is setup
though unless you like experimenting with lots of new programs it will
be not to much hassle
