i am not sure this problem is related to modelines... my monitor is lcd
which is connected to video card via digital connection: this means imho
that i should not bother with vsync/hsync and other stuff... my problem is
that lcd monitor is able to display only 1024x768 resolution.

any other resolution less than that one is just put at the center of the
screen... this is the problem all the laptops without hw resize capability
have.

this should be the right explanation of the problem...
