Thanks for the book's information.

I agree, most place pay the permanent DBA low salary and has to work
very long hours... and has to be on-call.

But the smart one(smart DBA usually dont' like to do that on-call
restriction and long hours)
usually will end up doing consulting job, and also like to solve
strange/interesting problems.

I also agree with you, it takes a while to know the site and understand
the application a little bit
to understand how to tune the database.
