| [Caution: newbie ahead] I just did a netinstall of debian sarge. Went hitchless...well, except it _only_ boots to console log-in. I have a feeling I might have screwed up the part in the installation where it asked for the type of install, one option including "desktop environment". I remember not figuring out exactly which keystrokes to make this selection or how scroll through all the options. I just hit 'Enter' and the installation proceeded, fine, with whatever the default selection was. If it's that simple, then no prob for me to re-install the whole thing, make the right input selection. It didn't take too long. Would the basic netinstall include a gnome or kde desktop environment in its packages? If so, what command would I invoke at the console to launch it? Or, do I just apt-get the desktop program from one of the repositories. Is this the wrong question? Thanks for any tips! Bob |

So I booted into a console the first time. Simply apt-getting gnome plus xorg solved the problem. |
