| Hi all, I am in India and we use a Govt. organisation's Internet connection. The dialer they provide works(in fact they install only) in Windos XP. When I asked them the dialer for Linux , they said they cannot provide such a connection. Is it possible to use wine and have the windos installer work in Linux? Or is there any other dialer that will establish connection between my Linux machine and the ISP? I have Ubuntu Dapper and Vector Linux. Thanks in advance. Muthuraman. |

IF the provider is providing the connection via say ppp, then yes, linux can dial and connect with ppp (see for exampel www.theory.physics.ubc.ca/ppp-linux.html for a step by step procedure for setting up and debugging such connections.) If they have made their own proprietary interface, then you are out of luck. Anyway, ppp and chat are what you need if the first is true. >I have Ubuntu Dapper and Vector Linux. >Thanks in advance. >Muthuraman. |

What's the connection protocol??? We'll never know how to help if you don't tell us the protocol... -- Jerry McBride (jmcbride@mail-on.us) |

| Thanks for the replies. I do not know how to find the protocol. From the ISP web site I find that the connection is a PPP connection. I will give a try to Ubuntu PPP www.theory.physics.ubc.ca/ppp-linux.html a try. Thanks in advance. Muthuraman. |
