| Hey, Asking for a friend ... He is using kubuntu desktop, and is looking for a PAE kernel (has 4GB, post shows 4GB, Linux shows 2GB to 2.8 GB depending on BIOS option). On Fedora (which I use) it is listed as kernel-PAE-`uname -r` Everything I have found on this for him suggests that linux-server (as a kernel release) is what he needs, yet he says it is not listed anywhere. What does he need to do to get a PAE kernel installed, or is it enabled by default? (he is looking at /boot/config-`uname -r` if Ubuntu has it...). Suggestions? I use 2.6.23.x or 2.6.24.1 and you can find those settings when configiuring the kernel for recompiling. If you use menuconfig, look under "processor type and features"... -- Jerry McBride (jmcbride@mail-on.us) |

I am aware of how to enable PAE when recompiling, but this sort of defeats the purpose of using a repo-manager IMHO. Does Ubuntu not offer a PAE kernel for a desktop via apt? Being a Fedora user myself, it is easy to do with a 'yum install kernel-PAE' for instance. I am looking for the Ubuntu equivalent. Is there one? re-compiling kernels, while do-able, is not what he is looking to do. JR. -- Bill will have to take Linux from my cold, dead flippers. -Tux. |
