If I set up a mail server using the directions on this page:

Do I have to take any additional steps to prevent being an open relay?

newer versions of sendmail ( i don't know which versions) are by default
do not relay messages from outside localhost, plus it requires
authentication. But to make sure this is true when you install it.

Once you've got your mail server up and running, test that it's not an
open relay from this site.
