Default playing MIDI files

Hi,

I'm running Debian Sarge (stable, kernel 2.4) with kde dm, on DELL Inspiron
8200, with OSS sound modules (ALSA not installed). Evrything is ok (sound
files, ogg, wav, ...) but I'm not able to Kmid with a midi file. In fact,
Kmid is unable to access/open /dev/sequencer ! But,
ls -la /dev/sequencer produces
crw-rw-rw- 1 root audio 14, 1 2005-02-26 07:39 /dev/sequencer

I tried to configure sound with the kde control center, but I was unable to
choose the MIDI modules.
Should I install ALSA or recompile the kernel ?

Regards
