| I just installed Ubuntu 4.10 from CD as practice before migrating to a Debian distro from SuSE. Yeah, I know 5.10 is out now :-) I did a default install, and then an 'expert' install. Aside from the issue of getting a ton of Python stuff, neither my video card (an old RIVA TNT 2, model 64) nor my plain PS2 wheelmouse work. Any attempt to go to X results in a freeze and black screen. Likewise, running XFree86 -configure followed by a test of the new config. The existing XFree config file uses the onboard Intel graphics chipset. During both installs, I was never asked to config an X server or a console mouse. So far I find the Debian Way a little obscure. HaroldWho -- Powered by SuSE Linux 9.0 -- Kernel 2.6.11 News Reader slrn 0.9.8.1 |
