| I can't figure this one out. X11 System is configured as far I can tell. (Would I be able to use my PC if not?) But I get this message when I try to install Google Earth. Not an essential program, but it would be fun to play with on a rainy day Verifying archive integrity... All good. Uncompressing Google Earth for GNU/Linux 4.2.205.5730...................................... ........................ You don't seem to be running an X server (no DISPLAY set). Google Earth and its installer both require X11. Aborting... Thanks for any help Walt |

Normally the DISPLAY environment variable should be set when the X window server is started, you should investigate why it ain't. However, if the X server and X applications are all running on the local system, you could try to open one of Konsole, GTerm or Xterm; set the DISPLAY manually (‘export DISPLAY=:0.0’ will do in most one gfc one mon cases); then start the GE install from within the terminal emulator. That's how I always do it and it always worked. Well, it is a rainy day so I tried Marcel's suggestion and tried installing again. Typed sudo /usr/local/src/GoogleEarthLinux.bin in Konsole, and received the same error message, so I decided to try it as root and it installed with no problems. Thanks for both of your responses.
