| I am attempting to install SCO Openserver 5.0.5 on replacement hardware. The new machine has 2 SCSI controllers - a LSI Logic 21040 (which uses the slha driver) to which a tape drive is attached and a LSI Logic 21320 (which uses the lsil driver) which attaches to the only disk drive - a Fuji MAP3367NP (36 G) drive. The bios lists the drive as HBA 1, ID 0, LUN 0. At the boot prompt from the CD install I have tried all combos of link, followed by lsil Sdsk=lsil(X,Y,0,0) but the hard drive is never recognized. The hardware info screen that comes up when attempting the install does show the 2 channels(?) of the 21320 adapter but no boot device. For the time being, I am not even attempting to load the slha driver for the other card attached to the tape drive. The machine is functional - it boots to a FreeDos that was loaded on the hard drive. Mike |

It's possible that the 5.0.5 lsil driver doesn't fully support your adapter. But first, try to make things as simple as possible: Remove or disable in the system BIOS the 21040 adapter which uses the slha driver. Remove any other PCI cards other than video. Boot from the 5.0.5 install CD and watch the hardware inventory screen for any significant pauses as the drivers test themselves against the hardware. In particular, the blc driver sometimes causes problem and has to be disabled in the bootstring. Write down all the info for the %adapter line(s) and post it here, along with any driver error messages. Also, make sure that the hard disk is plugged into the first bus, not the 2nd. Simply plug the cable into the other channel and see if the BIOS now reports it any differently. And of course, check the basics. Is the disk drive bus properly terminated with an external terminator? Bob |

According to the documentation I had for the other LSI Logic controller (the LSI21040), the connector I originally had the drive plugged into was channel A (I had no diagram for the LSI 21320 - they seemed similiar enough in appearance). Should I have been able to get the system to recognize the drive on the other channel with the proper link command? Thanks for the help. Mike |

Maybe, with the proper Sdsk=lsil(ha,bus,id,lun). On some controllers, channel no. == bus no., starting at either 0 or 1. On others, this doesn't work because the channels aren't actually separate SCSI busses. I don't know which category your adapter falls into. Bob |
