I have never seen a Microsoft Access based application run any faster than a dried out worm crawling on sand on a hot sunny day. I can't imagine moving something like an MM-sized application to Access. Or have things changed? |

I've had many MS Access DBs that worked fine - way better than many Oracle DBs I've seen. How big are these Med DB things? Why not port the back end to SQL Server? Medical Manager also runs on other flavors of Unix such as IBM's AIX, atleast back in 2000. I've heard it mentioned that it worked on Solaris, but never saw it in all the years that I worked with Medical Manager. Yes, Medical Manager gobbled up all the dealers that signed their name in blood. However, there are still some dealers that refused to assimilate, even though can not resell Medical Manager to Medical practices, support the product. |

| We were one of those that got de-authorized after reselling MedMgr for 19 years. We didn't get bought out. We still support all our sites except for two. MedMgr is pushing Intergy now and I am not even sure you can purchase the "old" MedMgr. We started selling MicroMD which is Sybase based and has a full conversion from MedMgr. Over 200 sites have been liberated from MedMgr to MicroMD, most in the last year and a half.. MM on SCO Unix was a big chunck of systems I supported - I worked with at least a couple of MM Dealer exterminations, still do support MM die-hards. Interesting to know the above alternatives. |

But I have still been looking into this, as there is a lot of Offices in my area that still run MM. I have found that FreeBSD has a SCO emulator that some say works, just not well. So that is one alternative. Another that I like even better is OpenEMR http://www.openemr.net has anyone had any expeirence with this,or come accross it in their travels. I am a big proponent of Free OSS (free as in freedom, not price, although if the price is free that's OK too), I don't like vendor lockins especialy in situations like this. If you know of any other OSS that might be viable, I did look at FreePM (Free Practice Manager) didn;t quite like it, please let me know. Norm |

| I have been installing and supporting MM on SCO for almost 8 years. I have successfully made it run on Redhat Linux and to make things even nicer, made it to run multiple datasets without having to re-license. MM decided to make it difficult for those of us that helped them get where they are. They decided to alienate everybody so I decided to do it on my own.
